Clock Wise Services

In-Shop Repair

At Clock Wise, we understand that every clock has sentimental value – that it’s a member of the family. Our longevity statistics say a lot about our commitment to the clock repair industry. As of 2020, we have over 70 years of experience in our Raleigh staff of 3, we’ve repaired over 17,000 clocks, and we’ve provided over 22 years of continuous, storefront service to the public. We offer free estimates for all repairs brought to our shop. Leave your clock with us, we’ll give you a receipt, and then we’ll call you with an estimate. Your turnaround time will vary with the work level required, parts ordering and acquisition, and our current repair backlog.

Each clock shop has its own repair philosophy. At Clock Wise, we recommend that every mechanical clock movement (spring or weight-driven) be serviced every 3 to 5 years. Clocks fall into 2 major categories based upon their age. As a general rule, movements made prior to 1960 are no longer in production and must be repaired “as is.” But for clocks made after 1960, replacement parts and new movements are still available in many cases. We are experienced and know what’s best for your clock – routine service, refurbishment, or replacement parts. We always recommend the repair that gives you the best long-term value for your money.

At Clock Wise, we repair most clocks - but not all. We repair both wind-up and battery-operated clocks, and we are the area’s premier cuckoo clock repair center. We can convert wind-up clocks and plug-in clocks to battery operation, with some limitations. We work on Atmos clocks and wind-up anniversary clocks, but we do not work on battery-operated anniversary clocks. We replace watch batteries and provide limited case repair services. Your clock is insured while we have it, we do all of our work in-house, and we provide warranties on all of our work. If you aren’t sure if we work on your type of clock, bring it to us. We’ll be honest with you.

In-Home Repair

Scott Sloan, the owner, makes all house calls every Wednesday. The charge varies with the work being done and the distance from our North Raleigh shop. We do not charge “by the hour.” You will receive a flat rate charge for house call services. The most common scenario for an in-home repair includes addressing the issue you’re having and servicing the clock at the same time. At Clock Wise, we recommend your clock be serviced every 3 to 5 years. If parts or additional trips are needed after your initial visit, there will be an additional charge. We go the extra mile to give you the best value for your money. The average house call is completed in about one hour, but if it takes a little longer to do the job right, that’s what we do. Our initial-trip problem resolution rate is over 95%. The lead time for scheduling a house call is 1 to 2 weeks. Give us a call today!

Moving Your Clock

Don’t take any chances when moving your clock. With just a few simple preparatory steps, your cherished family heirloom can be safely moved across the room, across town, or across the country. Moving companies aren’t clock specialists. At Clock Wise, that’s all we do, so you can rest assured you’re in good hands. When it comes to moving a clock, there are 2 ways we can help you: (1) using customized packing boxes for the weights and pendulum, we can prepare your clock for a move by the moving company, or (2) we can move it ourselves. We have moved clocks to and from many cities including Alpena, Michigan; Albany, New York; Fallstaff, Maryland; Indianapolis, Indiana; Wheeling, West Virginia; Norfolk, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia, Birmingham, Alabama; and Ocala, Florida. Wherever you and your clock need to go, we can handle it. Call us for a quote!
